  34. The OS/2 2.0 PaintJet driver does not work on a 1.3 system.
  35. This driver (any any other driver) requiring the mirrors.dll
  36. will not work with 1.3.  The mirrors.dll is a 32 bit dll.

  38. DMA PARALLEL PORT ARBITRATION LEVEL
  39. ..
  40. When using OS/2 2.0, the DMA parallel prot arbitration level
  41. should not be disabled.  It should be set to SHARED 7.
  42. When using OS/2 1.3 with CSD 5054 or greater applied, the
  43. DMA parallel port arbitration level should not be disabled.
  44. Any level prior to this, should have the arbitration level
  45. disabled on those systems with a DMA parallel port (PS/2
  46. models 56, 57, 80-A21, 80-A31, 90, and 95).

  48. PARALLEL PORT PRINTING PROBLEMS
  49. ..
  50. If nothing prints on an AT (ISA) bus system, the parallel port
  51. may be configured incorrectly.  This is especially true if the
  52. parallel port worked correctly under DOS.  Up to 3 parallel
  53. ports can be installed on most systems as long as the port
  54. address and hardware interrupt levels are set properly.  The
  55. proper combinations under OS/2 are address 3BC and IRQ7, 378
  56. and IRQ7, and 278 and IRQ5.  If these combinations are not
  57. used,  printer error messages or very slow printing will occur.
  58. ..
  59. AT bus systems are incapable of sharing hardware interrupt
  60. levels.  This means each adapter in your system must have a
  61. different hardware interrupt level assigned.  Special code
  62. handles the conflict as described in the paragraph above.
  63. Many sound cards (Soundblaster) use the same hardware
  64. interrupt level as the first parallel port and the conflict
  65. must be resolved if you intend to print.  Using IRQ10 with
  66. Soundblaster is recommended since it does not conflict with
  67. the parallel ports (IRQ7, IRQ5).  IRQ2 cannot be used since
  68. it drives the slave 8259 Programmable Interrupt Controller.
  69. ..
  70. Problems have been found when using certain parallel port
  71. printer cables that do not meet the parallel port specifica-
  72. tions.  Cables that are longer than six feet in length are
  73. suspect.  Cables that do not contain all 25 wires will not
  74. work under OS/2.  The six foot cable length problem is more
  75. evident on higher speed processor systems.
  76. ..
  77. Some older parallel port adapters fail to generate hardware
  78. interrupts.  These adapters usually work correctly under DOS
  79. since DOS does not use hardware interrupts to print.  OS/2,
  80. due to its multitasking capability, must use interrupts to
  81. transfer data out the parallel port.  If your adapter fails
  82. to generate interrupts, it must be replaced in order to
  83. print under OS/2.  If your buffer light illuminates on your
  84. printer or if your printer prints the first character and
  85. then an error message is displayed after approximately 45
  86. seconds, you may be experiencing an interrupt problem.

  141. need to ensure that LPT1 is configured to interrupt level 7
  142. (IRQ7).  Not doing so will cause printing under OS/2 to
  143. function erratically.  Be aware that when using many other
  144. common adapters such as the SoundBlaster card, they may come
  145. from the factory configured on IRQ7.  Also, many manufacturers
  146. recommend you configure their cards on IRQ7.  Non-microchannel
  147. machines cannot share interrupts and each card must be on a
  148. separate IRQ to avoid conflicts.  See the reference for your
  149. adapter cards to configure the IRQs.  Additionally, LPT2 cards
  150. should be configured on IRQ5.

  160. QUESTION:    How does AES for OS/2 interact with 2.0 GA?
  161. ANSWER:      The basic function of AES is to provide a
  162.              convenient method for emulation mode switching on
  163.              the IBM LaserPrinter products.  By correlating

  165.              user can send their job to the correct port and
